The
Name of the Rose - Abraham Darby (1678-1717) was one of the
pioneers of the English Revolution. He invented coke smelting and
advanced the mass production of brass and iron goods.
This
is one of David Austin's most popular roses and rightly so. Large
yellow buds open to display beautifully cupped peach blooms with shades
of pink, gold and copper. The color variation depends on the climate.
In my garden, summer blooms are more in the peach range while cooler
temperatures in the fall bring a nice blend of pink and yellow. This
is a repeat bloomer and an excellent fall bloomer. The rose gets high
marks for fragrance - strong and fruity.
A fast
grower, this rose needs a lot of space if grown as a shrub. It can
quickly reach a span of 6' in all directions. It performs equally
well as a climber and can be trained along a fence or on a pillar.
Disease
resistance is better than most Austin roses but you can expect some
blackspot. Rust has also been reported but this is usually a problem
in the west and midwestern states.
