Although
a modern rose, Alchymist is very reminiscent of an old rose
with its intricate quartered blooms. The color is outstanding with
pale yellow buds opening to brighter yellow blossoms tinged with orange,
copper and apricot. Photos of Alchymist usually differ greatly.
This is because its color will vary depending on climates. Blooms
last a long time and are very fragrant. How sad it is that this rose
only blooms once each year!
It can
be grown as a climber, reaching 12-15 feet or left to sprawl as a
shrub rose. If trained as a climber, it must be done when the canes
are young as they become stiff and awkward with age. Unfortunately
the dark green foliage (bronzy in the fall) is very prone to blackspot
and thus must be monitored carefully.
