When
I first read the description of Ballerina in a rose catalog,
I thought that it might serve well in a problem area near my house
where a mass of dead crape myrtle roots proved impossible to move
and dangerous to mow around. Ballerina did the job and covered
the problem area with a cascading fountain of beautiful blooms. It
thrived there for many years but eventually started to develop blackspot
so bad that I had to move it to another location. It continues to
hang on but has yet to display its showstopping performance again.
When
in bloom, it forms a massive fountain shape (5 ft. x 5 ft.) which
is covered with small delicate pink blooms with white centers. The
flowers resemble the dogwood and repeat throughout the summer and
into the fall. It is beautiful growing carefree but I have also seen
it trained as a climber with spectacular results.
