Catmint (Nepeta faassenii)

Bloom Time - Midsummer and throughout fall

Culture - You will usually find catmint in the herb section - it is a member of the mint family. The aromatic leaves are sometimes intoxicating to cats who like to roll around it in in a euphoric state. And some cats don't care for it at all, which is good because it really is a shame to have your catmint trampled over. Cats actually prefer catnip, a similar herb which is more aromatic. Catmint is a good filler for a flower border as well as a good edging plant for taller shrubs or perennials. It performs well in average to rich soil with good drainage. I have found that it actually does better in raised beds and containers. The faded flowers can be sheared to promote later blooming.
