There is nothing really complicated about Complicata. This is a hefty robust shrub rose that doesn't seem to be picky about growing conditions and still flourishes. My plant is planted in a difficult location - an area along my driveway which is shaded by large hackberry trees. The soil here is dry but Complicata doesn't seem to mind these conditions. It took a few years before I started to see significant blooms but now the blooms are more generous each year. Considering the dimensions the rose is capable of, I sometimes shudder to think what it might do if it were planted in a sunny spot in good soil. It is said that the rose suckers quite a bit. I have not noticed this and it is probably due to where I have it located. It has already made a huge sized shrub, about 5 x 5. It supposedly will do well as a tree climber. I'm sure that it would also make a wonderful hedge.

The blooms are charming but only appear once a year. They are single and clear pink with a white halo in the center upon which lies a cluster of golden stamens. Fragrance is minimal but the blooms demand attention and do well to brighten a shady spot.

I've not noticed disease problems with this rose and I've never had to spray it.
