The
Name of the Rose
- Lady Waterlow (nee Margaret Hamilton) (1849-1931) was a California
society heiress who married Sir Sydney Waterlow, a baronet and Lord
Mayor of London.
A modest
sized climber, Lady Waterlow is a good candidate for a pillar,
post or low fence. Large, loose double blooms have the appearance
of a hybrid tea rose and appear early in the season and continue off
and on throughout the summer. The strong, fruity fragranced blooms
are salmon pink with a faint flush of yellow near the center. Foliage
is a healthy dark green and canes are somewhat stiff and thorny. This
climber can reach 12 ft. and grow to 8 feet wide. In the first year
in my garden, the rose has shown good disease resistance and robust
growth.
