The
Name of the Rose - Also known as Common Monthly Rose,
Old Pink Monthly, Parson's Pink.
A
most famous and endearing rose, Old Blush has been around
for a long time and has well earned the high praise put upon it. It
has been used to breed many roses including the establishment of the
bourbon class when it was crossed with Autumn Damask. Its
genes are present in all our modern roses. Much of the praise given
it is due, however, to an ironclad durability. It will flourish in
a variety of soil situations, including poor soils and blooms throughout
the year, even during the winter months!
The blooms are medium lilac pink which darken with age. The flowers fade
rather quickly but are replaced by other opening buds. This
is usually the first and the last rose to bloom in my garden. It
is an upright narrow bush (to 5 feet) but can be sheared if desired.
It makes an excellent hedge and looks good planted along fence rows.
A climbing version is also available.
