Discovered
in Copeland, Texas, this rose was developed by the Antique Rose Emporium,
who gave it the name Phalaenopsis (pronounced fal-en-OPP-sis)
because of its resemblance to an orchid. I can't say that I see the
similarity but the blooms are pretty nonetheless. This has always
been a puny growing rose for me and on more than one occasion, I have
lost it, that is I let other plants grow over it. I think it would
better suited in a container or maybe even in a bed with miniature
roses. Maybe I will get around to doing that next year. But despite
my negligence the little rose has been a survivor and is a reliable
bloomer. The flowers are single, pink with white centers and yellow
stamens. The foliage is also very attractive - a clean, healthy light
green.
