Exposure - Full sun, some light shade
Culture - Easy to grow in average soil, average
moisture, may need staking. Powdery mildew is common among this
particular variety of phlox. Look for a new variety called "Robert
Poore" (magenta) (photo below) which has performed well in
mildew testing trials. Other varieties to look for include "David"
(white), "Eva Cullum" and "Franz Schubert"
(both pink). Clumps can be divided every 3-4 years.
Comments
- This
old fashioned flower, native to North America, is wonderful for
mid to late summer color and looks great in borders. The blooms
are long lasting and is often the only perennial blooming in the
hot days of summer. An excellent perennial for cut flowers and
for attracting butterflies.
