This
rose came from Iran and its parentage is unknown. It is usually classified
as a damask here in the United States, but a Portland in Europe. The
color of the blooms is dark crimson and for the person relishing the
elusive purple rose, this one comes close. They are intensely fragrant
and look very pretty against pale green foliage which resembles a
rugosa rose. It is not a strong grower and does not exceed three feet
in either direction. Rebloom is good but even better if the rose is
deadheaded or even sheared after a flush of blooms. I have had disease
problems with this rose, particularly blackspot.
