La
Marne is a wonderful landscape rose because it is virtually carefree.
I have never seen blackspot or powdery mildew plague this rose and
it blooms well with only morning sun. In fact, too much sun will bleach
the pink flowers to white. This well behaved grower projects an upright
habit (to about 4 feet high) and is also very narrow (less than 3
feet wide). Cupped and ruffled semi-double flowers appear all over
the bush throughout the spring and summer. The color of the blooms
is particularly spectacular during cooler periods. I use La Marne
in my border, mixed with other roses and perennials, but I have also
seen it effectively used as a small hedge and as a container plant.
