Introduced in 1960 by Kordes in Germany, this rose can be seen classified as a hybrid musk, a climber or a floribunda. The general consensus classifies it as a hybrid musk. I have used it as a climber on a 7 foot arch with Cl. Pinkie on the opposite side. Like most hybrid musks, Lavender Lassie blooms early but, unlike most hybrid musks, the blooms are shaped larger and semi-double. The blooms are wonderfully fragrant and it is a pleasant experience to walk through the archway and catch its scent. The color is a soft lilac purple which looks great against the light green foliage. Liz Druitt, in her book "The Organic Rose Garden" says that Lavender Lassie does very well in shady locations (such as a north wall) but it blooms more profusely in sunnier sites.
