Elizabeth
Lawrence (1904-1985)
The title
of my website is borrowed from Elizabeth Lawrence, who has inspired
me ever since I discovered her book A
Southern Garden, first published in 1941. Ms.
Lawrence created two renowned gardens in Raleigh and Charlotte, North
Carolina. Her life-long interest in plants resulted in meticulous record-keeping
of bloom dates for both her garden and those of her friends. Her experience
of gardening in zone 7 is formidable and I would be happy to possess
a fraction of her knowledge. Any serious gardener living in the Southeast,
particularly in zone 7, should read her books. Not only are they educational
but her writing style is warm and down-to-earth. They are like conversing
with an old friend and I re-read them often, especially during the winter
months. I highly recommend all of them!
