Yellow
is a rare color in the rugosa class and this fine example was hybridized
by crossing a yellow miniature (Golden Angel) with the rugosa
Belle Poitevine. Deep yellow buds
open to a softer lemon hue which fades to cream. The bush is shrubby
and grows to a height of 4-5 foot. I have read that this is a spreading
rose but in my garden it has tended to grow upright. Unlike most rugosas,
it does not produce rose hips.
This
rose performed unspectacularly until its third year when all of a
sudden it took off. I have since heard from other gardeners that it
is indeed slow to establish so don't give up on it!
