The Name
of the Rose - Sir Thomas Lipton (1850-1931) was a millionaire British
grocer, yachtsman and entrepreneur. He owned vast coffee, tea and
cocoa plantations and introduced the tea bag to consumers. He was
knighted by Queen Victoria in 1898.
Although
most rugosas disdain our heat and humidity, Sir Thomas Lipton
holds up to it quite well. Growth is vigorous and, in sunny locations,
you can expect a "bushy" 6' high x 4' wide. It is one of
the tallest growing rugosa roses.
Blooms,
appearing in early summer and intermittantly afterwards, are loose,
semi-double, pure white, and fragrant. Foliage is dark green and leathery.
Disease resistance is good. Very similar to Blanc Double De Coubert.
