The
Name of the Rose - Mlle. Marie de Sombreuil (1774-1823?)
was a French Revolution heroine who saved her father, the governor
of Les Invalides, from prison and death.
Definately
a "romantic" rose, this is one of the best white climbers.
Creamy white flowers delicately tinged with yellow adorn long pliable
canes. They possess a rich tea fragrance and should be planted in
a spot where you can enjoy them. Sombreuil is an excellent candidate
for an archway, pergola or fence. Repeat bloom is also quite good.
This is a rose that can suffice on five hours of sun and will appreciate
shade in the afternoon to protect its delicate coloring. It is a non-demanding
rose and the only pruning required will be the removal of old or dead
wood.
