The Garden in Winter
The winter climate in north Alabama is,
on average, mild and variable. Extreme fluctuations are common
- the temperature can be in the 60s one day and in the 20s the next.
This often can drive the gardener and our plants crazy! Snow is a
rare occurrence but usually we get at least one snowfall each year.
This usually occurs in January or February (although we have had snow
as late as April). The garden has a magical quality when it
is covered with snow. These photographs were taken in 1995.
