Achillea (Yarrow)

Achillea "The Pearl" growing with daylilies

Achillea (Yarrow) millefolium
(aka Common Yarrow, Milfoil)

Hardy to Zone 4
Bloom Time - June
Colors - White, yellow, red, pink
Foliage - Fern-like, delicate, aromatic, gray-green
Size - 3-4 ft. average
Exposure - Full sun
Culture - Many cultivars and countless new varieties enter the market each year. Most types do well in average and poor soil but good drainage is essential. Yarrow spreads very rapidly so plant them at least 3 feet apart. They need to be divided every 3-4 years. They are excellent as dried or cut flowers and are very useful in arrangements. Grow in rock gardens, wildflower areas or in borders. Blooms should be cut after fading. If you find that your plants are disappearing from your garden, the likely culprit is soil that is too wet or high humidity. These plants prefer hot, semi-dry conditions and lanquish in wet conditions.
